I’m Scott Kidder. I live in Benicia, CA and work as an Engineering Manager at Discord, where my team handles all file-based media on the platform - uploads, processing, delivery, the whole stack.

Before Discord I was at Mux as an early engineer, helping build the video and data products from scratch. Before that: Brightcove, Zencoder, MobiTV. Most of my career has been spent on video infrastructure in one form or another.

I started programming on a TI-85 in 1992, picked up a CS degree from UC Davis, and haven’t really stopped tinkering since.

Mostly a place to document things I’ve figured out - stuff I wish I’d found when I was searching for it. Hardware, home lab projects, distributed systems, whatever I happen to be working on.

Outside Work

I backpack and camp with my son Ramsay when I can. I have a home network that has gotten somewhat out of hand.
